Participants will recognize that a Growth Mindset in students is vital to succeeding in school and in the workplace!
A dynamic equilibrium should exist that balances Global Readiness in schools to the expectations of the workplace. This will better prepare students for the social-technological-environmental challenges students today will face tomorrow. Students with a Fixed Mindset will undermine their own potential, while those with a Growth Mindset will become critical learners that reflect resilient problem-solvers who take initiative and seek opportunities to grow professionally. The latest best practices regarding cultivating a Growth Mindset will be discussed with integrated supplemental activities to reinforce key points. Strategies during the session are based on neuroscience and neuro-education findings, which have shown to be highly effective (if properly implemented). In addition, an in-depth analysis will be shared surrounding “Cognitive Drift” and tips on how to address this with students. Cognitive Drift is a state that reflects a learner’s minimal attention to learning or learning task(s) but before a complete cognitive disconnection from the lesson or learning task.
Participant Goals:
Using evidence-based practices grounded on neuroscience, this presentation highlights brain-based teaching strategies and the “science of learning” to show educators how to transform any student from a passive observer to an intentional active learner. Aspects of emotional-social intelligence are integrated into this hands-on workshop. Educators will also be able to understand the science of attention-spans with and without technological uses in the classroom, and how to leverage the relational capital in their classroom into one of trust and motivation.
